En un tiempo en el que la enfermedad y la muerte se ocultan a los ojos de la gente, no parece que los monumentos, que van señalando en el espacio público los hitos históricos que configuran la identidad de los pueblos, y cuyo origen parte de las estelas funerarias, tengan un buen futuro, pese a que la conciencia de lo que somos pasa por el recuerdo de hechos luctuosos que han ido marcando las pautas de nuestra historia.
Por otro lado la ciudad es testigo de memorias antagónicas que entran en constante conflicto y si uno de los objetivos de los monumentos es conseguir la paz del que sufre, la atenuación del duelo, o la paz de los muertos, ese objetivo nunca se alcanza si la misma sociedad está en conflicto con su pasado. Los monumentos, si algún poder sanador tienen, desaparece si son manipulados.
Ghosts emerging in the forgetful city: Monuments into conflict
In a time when illness and death are hidden from the eyes of the people, it seems that the monuments, which are pointing in the public space historical landmarks that make up the identity of the peoples, and whose origins are the tombstones, have a good future, despite the awareness of what we are passes through the memory of tragic events that have marked the patterns of our history.
On the other hand the city is witnessing conflicting memories that come into constant conflict and if one of the objectives of the monuments is to get peace to who suffers, grief attenuation, or the peace of the dead, that goal never will be achieved if society itself is in conflict with its past. Monuments power, if any healing power have, disappear when manipulated.
