Welcome to the Department of Library Science, Documentation, and Audiovisual Communication













 
 
The Department of Library Science, Documentation, and Audiovisual Communication at the Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media is the body responsible for organizing and developing research. We also coordinate and teach theoretical, practical, and laboratory courses in the field of knowledge of Library Science, Documentation, and Audiovisual Communication at the University.

Department

The Department's responsibilities are:
Organize and teach the courses assigned to the field of knowledge of Library Science and Documentation as part of the teaching program set by the study councils.
Organize and teach courses corresponding to doctoral programs, specialization courses, retraining, and university extension.
Promote the creation of working groups for the coordination of teaching.
Coordinate and develop research.
Promote the scientific and pedagogical updating of its members and support the professional development and retraining of PTGAS staff.
Promote relationships with other departments and institutes of the University and other universities.
Participate in the governance of the University, in accordance with its statutes.

Teaching

The Department participates in a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, especially in the bachelor's degrees in Audiovisual Communication and in Information and Documentation Management, as well as the simultaneous track in Digital Information and Documentation Management + Audiovisual Communication.

The Department’s faculty also teach in the master’s programs in Libraries and Heritage Collections, Digital Content Management, and Library and Information Systems Management and Leadership, as well as inter-faculty and inter-university master’s programs: in Digital Humanities, organized by various faculties of the University, and in the master’s program in School Libraries and Promoting Reading, coordinated jointly by the Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media and the UAB.

With the aim of maintaining contact with the professional world, the faculty of the Department lead several courses, such as the postgraduate course in Bookstore Management and others with a clear professionalizing intent: the expert degree in Social Media Content or the Reader Prescription title. In this same line, the Department’s professors participate in the master’s program in Audiovisual Scriptwriting, a joint project of the University of Barcelona, the University of Lleida, and the Scriptwriters Association of Catalonia, the professional association of scriptwriters in Catalonia.

The professors of the Department also participate in the doctoral program in Information and Communication, jointly taught by our Department and the Department of Documentation Science and History of Science at the University of Zaragoza.


Research

The Department has several consolidated research groups and also various research projects funded within and outside the groups, in addition to more individualized research by some individuals. The Research Center for Information, Communication, and Culture (CRICC), n independent research center created in 2016, offers, together with the Department of Documentation Science and History of Science at the University of Zaragoza, the doctoral program in Information and Communication.
