Cristina Benítez García obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and a Master’s degree in Molecular Biomedicine at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). She spent 5 months in the Beatson Institute CRUK (Glasgow) studying cancer microenvironment and metastasis and a year investigating epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition at Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (CBMSO, Madrid). She joined the Cancer Cell Biology Research Group in September 2019 and she is performing her Ph.D. studies under the supervision of Dr. Vanessa Soto Cerrato and Dr. Ricardo Pérez-Tomás.
Her current work is focused on evaluating a new therapeutic approach for cancer treatment through the assessment of novel inhibitors against the antiapoptotic protein survivin. Moreover, she is also involved in the preclinical development of a new drug delivery system consisting in the nanoencapsulation of conventional chemotherapeutics, in order to increase tumor drug release and decrease systemic drug toxicity.
