Dr. Antonio Viayna, obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy in the Universtitat de Barcelona (UB) in 2012. During this time he made a couple of stages in the experimental Medicinal Chemistry field. First, at the Unitat de Química Farmacèutica of the UB, under the supervision of Prof. Diego Muñoz-Torrero, and a 3-month internship under the Prof. Maria Laura Bolognesi group at the Alma Mater Studiorum-Università degli studi di Bologna. After finishing his degree, he obtained a Master in Pharmaceutical and Parapharmaceutical Industry in CESIF, that permitted him to start a 2-year experience in the R&D Department of GRIFOLS, a group of companies devoted to the research, development, manufacturing and commercialization of hemoderivates, serums and other preparations.
In October 2014, he completely changed his working area to the Computational Chemistry/Biology field, starting a PhD in the Computational Biology Chemistry Gastronomy group (CBCG) under the supervision of Prof. Francisco Javier Luque, working in conformational studies of ligands and design of new anti-malarial compounds, that permitted him to learnt a wide range of computational techniques related to Molecular Mechanics (MM), Quantum Mechanics (QM), Docking and others. During this time he also collaborated with different experimental groups like the one of Prof. Cosimo D. Altomare from Università degli Studi di Bari-Aldo Moro or Prof. José Manuel Bautista, from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He successfully defended his thesis in July 2019.
Currently, he is working as Assistant Prof. in the Department of Nutrition, Food Sciences and Gastronomy in the UB Faculty of Pharmacy. He combines his teaching activities with research. He is specially interested in the proper estimation of physicochemical parameters, such as pKa, logP, permeability, etc. from both methodological and applied point view, with special emphasis in how they help in the design of active compounds against different diseases, such as Alzheimer or Malaria, among others topics.
