Antonio Viayna, Carolina Estarellas, David Vílchez and F. Javier Luque have recently participated in publishing the article entitled "Holistic approach to anti-knock agent: A high-throughput screening of aniline-like compounds" in the journal Fuel. This work is the result of a long collaboration involving Repsol company and different professors from Facultat de Farmàcia i Ciències de l'Alimentació, from different disciplines.

For our group, this project supposed to deal with a topic a little bit far from our usual field. The motivation of the project is the related to the analysis and evaluation of antiknock compounds due to the new engine requirements implemented during the last years. Thus, in this work an holistic approach is designed for high-throughput screening of aniline-like compounds. We approached and evaluated the project from different points of view such as physicochemical factors, radical reactivity and environmental and toxicological risks. Using gasoline EN-228 Efitec 98, in some cases an enhancement of 3 units of RON (Research Octane Number), a parameter that measures the antiknock ability of fuel when compressed within the cylinder of an engine, was observed. However, few aniline derivatives were selected according to their impact on both RON changes and safety index.
