From 27th to 29th of September 2022, Carol is participating in the "5th European Workshop on AMPK and AMPK-related kinases" that is organized by Biochemical Society in Glasgow (United Kingdom). She is presenting an oral communication, related with one of her main research lines with the title "Towards the understanding of isoform selectivity by direct activators".
This congress in mainly focused to AMP-activated protein kinase, also know as AMPK, which plays a central role in the cellular and tissue homeostasis, since is related with different aspects of the body, such as metabolic sensor, regulating energy metabolism, protein synthesis, proliferation and differentiation, autophagy and apoptosis. Therefore, AMPK is fundamental in different diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and certain forms of cancer. This 5th edition is the continuation of a biennial series of meeting held in Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
