What is it and how does it work?
A PhD corresponds to the third cycle of official university studies, that is to say, those studies that can be accessed after taking an Official Master’s Degree or have passed the Research Degree and whose purpose is the development and defense of the PhD thesis, After which the title of doctor will be obtained.
How can you access?
To access the new PhD programs it is necessary to make a pre-admission application and the Academic Committee will be responsible for assessing access to the student’s program. You can check all the information regarding the pre-admission process here.
How long does it have?
The duration of PhD studies varies depending on the dedication, complete or partial.
If you enroll in full time the duration is 3 years, with the possibility of requesting two extensions of one academic year each, and that must authorize the Academic Committee of the PhD Program.
If instead, you are part-time, the duration is 5 years, with option of 3 extensions of one course each, also duly authorized.
What training activities must be carried out?
The new PhD programs Society and Culture: History, Anthropology, Arts, Heritage and Cultural Management and Geography, Territorial Planning and Environmental Management contemplate an approximate total training of 130h with a different distribution according to the program and the academic year.
How is the PhD structured?
In the first PhD course, a research plan must be presented, approximately in June, this must include the following sections (at least):
– Provisional title of the thesis
– Objectives of the thesis.
– The methodology to be used.
– Timeline and temporary planning.
This research plan must be accompanied by the administrative document approved by the Program Commission.
From the second year to the thesis deposit, the PhD students must present the monitoring report along with the activity sheet and the administrative document that can be found here.
