The research lines in Ecology and biodiversity of Antarctic benthic invertebrates of the "Research Group on Benthic Biology and Ecology" is formed by professors of Animal Biology (Invertebrates) of the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology, and Environmental Sciences of the University of Barcelona, from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the UB, the Center for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CSIC), and researchers from other national and foreign institutions involved in our projects.
Our research lines cover a wide range of approaches and topics, ranging from animal ecology and interactions between organisms, to aspects related to taxonomy, biodiversity, and natural products.
Part of our activity is focused on the transfer of knowledge, for example in studies of bioactivity of molecules of marine origin, especially with pharmacological potential, and also in the development of indicators of good environmental status and study of the impacts of human activity (climate change, plastics,…). In addition, the group carries out important advanced training work, teaching specialized master's degrees and directing undergraduate, masters, and doctoral dissertations. In addition, we develop a wide dissemination of our research in society.
